Thanks to the Lundgren’s for the great sausage snacks this week this past week. Snack Duty for this week — the Jennings and Danford families. If you want to volunteer for snack’s please sign up on the list posted on the class bulletin board.

We are still looking for a good solution to our room issue but for now we will continue to meet in the Bistro Room until the choir is done and then we will move to that location. Remember to put your prayer and praise requests on the board as you enter the choir room.

LaVeryl will be leading the group through the third lesson in our “Making Great Kids” series. This next one will be on Living the Love We Teach and is based on 1st Corinthians 13:1-13.

Please be diligent about prayer for our fellow class members this week. Lift up those that have shared with us some of the significant issues and life altering trials and tribulations they are experiencing.

Tabatha, Chris, LaVeryl, Tim Parker and I have signed up but we could definitely use at least one more. So if you have the time, please come and help us out. If you are signed up or available meet at the Harvest Hall kitchen a few minutes before 9pm to help serve. We should be done by no later than 10:30.

Only a couple people signed up for the Saturday Session so they could use some help. So if you are available for that evening please contact Bob Simon at 495-1206.

Class members are asked to either bring a picture to class or send an e-mail to Craig with a jpeg image. This will help us all to put names and faces together. Craig will keep a master copy and pass the electronic directory alone to everyone on the class mailing list.

The King’s Grant Baptist Church opened a new Sunday school class on the 13th of January 2008 to a great reception. The Legacy Builders group held an open house that served as an initial meet and greet and attracted 28 people.  One of our first setbacks was the fact that the class was too big for the room we had selected so we decided to move back to the choir room, at least temporarily. Minor glitches aside the class has set its future sights firmly on building relationships that are guided by the word of God and applicable to every day life.

One of the strengths of the class will certainly be the diversity of experience that the group brings to the table. That diversity, coupled with a singularity of purpose and good planning is an exciting combination for a great future and a great legacy.

We opened the session with introductions and a couple of ice breaker activities designed to help us get to know each other and to show the duality of the difficulty we have focusing on our relationships with each other while maintaining focus on our relationship with Christ. After a few laughs and a bit of information gathering it was time to close in prayer and call it a day.

The plan for the immediate coming weeks is to set some time for praise and prayer requests, a few minutes continuing to bond as a group while moving into our first study book called “Making Great Kids”.  The first session discusses 1st Samuel and asks directly if our kids are really our kids at all?

We hope to see you there! Cheers, Craig Goodmurphy

Since there were 28 present at the “meet and greet” fellowship on January 13, we quickly realized the need for a larger place to meet. Harvest Hall or the choir room are about the best locations for so many people, so what to do?

Harvest Hall is not as comfortable as the choir room, so let me recommend we all meet in the bistro room for coffee and refreshments (until the choir actually leaves for the sanctuary). Then once they vacate the room, we can casually move down the hall to the choir room for announcements, prayer concerns and discuss the topic for the day.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think, or write an e-mail to Craig or LaVeryl.

Wow, the last Sunday for the “young adult” class brought many people together, 18 were present this past Sunday (January 6). I hope you now have a better idea about what to expect in the new Legacy Builders class, and the direction the group desires to go. We are not just looking for numbers, but please understand that any number shared represents the lives of people!

I’m tremendously excited about the leadership for the group, and really appreciate all that Craig Goodmurphy, LaVeryl Brown and Jerry Barnes are doing to doing to create an environment for significance, purpose, meaning and growth in the lives of such an important population within our church family.

Remember that this Sunday January 13 is the “Meet and Greet” fellowship during the 11:00 Bible study hour, in room 18. Come a little early at 9:45 for the new celebration service in the auditorium. We have great music and a praise team that really desires for worshippers to connect with God in significant ways! Join us then, and bring a friend. J

That’s right, we mailed post cards out this week with your invitation to your new class! Perhaps you’re like me and will put the card on your refrigerator with one of your favorite little magnets, as a reminder.

Remember that there is a class fellowship on our first Sunday, January 13, and the new series topic begins on January 20, Making Great Kids. Feel free to invite your neighbors!

We’re excited about what God is going to do with this class! If you come to the class this Sunday, January 6, we will finish up the “Young Adult” class series in Philippians, Joy Under Pressure.

We are refocusing the group and renaming ourselves to reflect our new direction as a class. We hope that you will consider joining us in this new Sunday Bible study community.

Here is an update and a description of some of our intentions in the New Year.

  • Effective immediately we are meeting in Room 18; not in the Choir Room.
  • Young Adults Class will close after January 6th and the completion of the Philippians study book.
  • Legacy Builder’s Class will start January 13th, 2008 at 11 am – Room 18.
  • The 13th will be a social “meet and greet” with snacks and small appetizers (for party and get-to-know-you time!).

We are focused on relationships under God and our first study is a 7 week session called “Making Great Kids” starting Sunday January 20th – The Half Year schedule for the class will be printed and distributed early to accommodate busy schedules and lives as much as possible.

This is going to be great! We hope this class will be on your New Years Resolution list!

Since the class is founded on building relationships, there is an important focus placed on socials and fellowship.

Each teaching block will end with a “keeping in touch” session followed by a class luncheon afterwards. Each teaching block may also include a session dedicated to a “family class” where any children of the members will be encouraged to participate in the class.

Finally, a quarterly social outside of class will be a regular planned event.  The class will strive to build and maintain a sharing, safe and invested community of partners.

The Legacy Builders class is organized for people interested in how they can integrate the word of God into their everyday relationships.

Anyone is welcome to join the class with special encouragement for those that are family-minded. This may include, but is not limited to, single parents, young married couples with or without children or those considering marriage.

Topics of discussion will be varied based on class needs but will include a Bible-based look at topics such as: family planning, parenting at different stages of childhood, keeping your relationship strong, responsible financing and budgeting, careers and jobs, making and managing time, setting boundaries…

There will also be short interspersed Bible studies to round out the spiritual growth of the members.
